Some of Derrick's students are on the West Coast, and he is available to teach up to 9pm Pacific time. Derrick continues teaching local students in person in the Swarthmore and Springfield area. Prior to moving to the Swarthmore, PA area, Derrick taught private guitar lessons and guitar classes for small groups in Boston and in Brighton, Massachusetts for over twenty years.

Beginner Guitar Method Book
Book includes guitar chord exercises for beginners, scales and arpeggios, and more! My method book, “Beginner Guitar Chord Exercises” teaches you how to play simple chords on guitar that you can use to play songs you know by current artists. The first group of chords that you’ll learn are the open chords like E major, A major, D major, and G major.

January 2026 - I am continuing to offer in-person guitar lessons at my new teaching studio, Delco Guitar Studios, located at 34 Yale Avenue in Morton, PA - contact me for rates and availability.
Starting February 23rd, I will be offering a guitar class for beginners here at Delco Guitar Studios. This will run on Mondays from 7:30 pm to 8:30pm for 6 weeks. Cost for the class is $180.
Guitar for beginners is designed for people who have never played guitar. This class will teach you how to hold the guitar, tuning, and some simple chords you can use to play popular songs. We'll also cover different kinds of music and guitar tabs you can access online to teach yourself songs. Students will need their own guitar to take the class.
I am using the website "lessons.com" to handle online bookings but you are also welcome to book the class by contacting me directly. I'm also happy to answer any questions you might have about the class There are no extra charges to book through them for me or you. This is a new service they recently started offering to teachers who have a profile on their website, which I have had for about 10 years now.
