For those of you working on your blues improvisation . . .
One thing that can really help beginning improvisers is an extensive library of backing tracks that sound good and are fun to play over. This sort of thing didn’t exist when I was a young guitar player back in the dark ages prior to the invention of the internet, but can easily be found now. Annnnnnd . . . Guitar Center has, on the portion of their website dedicated to their blues guitar contest, a whole slew of FREE, TOTALLY FREE, backing tracks that can be downloaded, just like I recently did (for my students who want to master blues improvisation). There are no restrictions whatsoever, as far as I can tell – I just downloaded every single track without any problems.
If you really want to get good at improvisation, go to their website right away and download every single one of these backing tracks before they come to their senses and start charging people after they’ve downloaded more than 3-4 tracks. Then proceed to wail away on the blues scale in various keys over these cool and well-recorded backing tracks.
